The TMA of Lake Cook has been actively involved
in Cook and Lake Counties since 1989 to help improve employees commute by working
with area businesses, communities, transportation agencies and elected
officials. Some of our activities and success stories include:
Shuttle Bug Service
The TMA manages the successful Shuttle Bug service in cooperation with Pace Suburban Bus, Metra Commuter Rail and 32 area employers on 18 routes, which provides shuttle connections from Metra Stations to area business.
Construction Updates
The TMA provides timely updates on local and regional highway construction projects impacting traffic, hosts an annual Highway Construction Meeting and works with agencies such as the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway Authority, and Cook and Lake Counties. Currently the TMA is working with the Tollway Authority to help provide construction updates on Tollway I-94/294 widening project as it impacts both mainline traffic and corridors such as Willow Road, Lake Cook Road, Route 22 and Route 60.
Transit Initiatives
The TMA works to help expand transit service and ridesharing programs with Pace and Metra for area employers. TMA recently worked with the Lake County Transportation Alliance and others to help expand AM reverse commute service on the Union Pacific North Line initiated the Sunrise Express that started in the spring of 2007. In 2006 the TMA helped leveraged funding to add three new shuttles to access the North Central Line in Vernon Hills & Buffalo Grove.
Highway Improvements
Over the years the TMA has worked actively with communities, elected officials, businesses and other groups to improve our highways, reduce congestion and improve travel safety. We actively worked with the Illinois Tollway Authority to help remove the gridlocked Deerfield Toll Plaza, improve the I-94/294 interchange and provide additional access ramps at Lake Cook Road. We also helped leverage funding and support for the widening of the Route 60 Tollway bridge, helped leverage grade separation improvements on Lake Cook Road, Route 22 and other projects. We actively support the Toll Authority in their efforts to fund and widen the Tri State Tollway.
Collaborative Efforts
The TMA has strategically aligned with regional and local groups for better planning and increased transportation funding including the RTA’s Moving Beyond Congestion, Lake County Transportation Alliance, Business Leaders for Transportation, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, Transportation for Illinois Coalition and others.
Environmental Initiatives
The TMA has actively participated in the Clean Air Counts and Partners for Clean Air to help leverage business support for environmentally friendly programs.
